Because every one of these questions has a hidden tripwire.
Here are 5 you may face - and how to tackle them like a pro:
1️⃣ What’s your greatest strength? 🎯 👉 Your company’s focused on doing X, Y, and Z. I’m the best in the world at that. What would you like to know first? (One client used this - the interviewer literally put their pen down and said “OK, let’s talk.”)
2️⃣ What’s your greatest weakness? 🤔 👉 I’m really good at A, B, and C. And I can always get better. It’s something I’m working on every day. (Weakness framed as growth = respect. One hiring manager told me this was their favorite answer in years.)
3️⃣ Where will you be in 5 years? 🎬 👉 I have no idea. How could I? Here’s what I do know: I’ll be helping some organization do X, Y, and Z. And that lucky organization will be among the best in the world at it.
4️⃣ Why are you the best person for this job? 🛡️ 👉 I don’t know if I’m the best. How could I? I don’t know your org as well as you do, and I don’t know who else you’re talking to. Here’s what I do know: You’re doing X, Y, and Z - and I’ve got a history of success with that.
5️⃣ How much money do you want to make? 💰 👉 You want somebody who can do A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. And you want the best person for the job. What did you have in mind? (Translation: push the ball back in their court, without awkward silence.)
Master these 5 - and you don’t just answer questions.
You own the interview.
