Even if you're not familiar with criminal exploits of mastermind antihero Walter White in the TV show Breaking Bad, I'll bet you have some strong opinions about drug dealers. 🦹‍♂️👮

Here's my question: how much have you been dealing drugs? LOTS OF DRUGS. 🍄💊🧪🌿💉

In his 1992 book The Healing Power of Doing Good, Allan Luks wrote about "Helper's High 🤪," which are positive emotions that result whenever one offers acts of kindness or service to another.

It turns out that when we help others, we get a surge of dopamine, and we feel GOOD.😎😊

However, the flip side is that whenever opportunities to help others are limited: no dopamine. No Helper's High. 🙅‍♀️

If you've been walking around, all proud of yourself because you DON'T ask anybody for help...well that's just stingy. Because if you asked others for help more often, you COULD be sharing more DOPAMINE to your friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, even strangers!🧑‍🤝‍🧑🤝

Sometimes people tell me they're AFRAID to ask for help because they think it'll make them look needy, or weak. What they don't realize is that when we ask for help, we're actually giving away one of the BEST drugs in the world! 🎉It's free, it's healthy, and it feels GREAT. When we ask others for help, we give them a gift.🎁

Think about times you've had a chance to help somebody else; how'd that feel?🤔

HOOKED ON HELP

Here's what great leaders know: giving away all that dopamine makes others want to buy from you, hire you, follow you.👉🧑

And it's addictive. After someone helps you once they'll want to help you again...and again and again and again. They'll get hooked on helping you. Asking for help doesn't make you weak, it makes you strong.🏋️‍♀️💪

Think of any great leader you know: how often do they get up in front of the crowd and say, "Yep! I did it all by myself! I didn't need any help! I certainly didn't need help from any of YOU people.🙅‍♂️

At the Academy Awards 🏆, how often do award winners get up there and say, "Well...I have nobody to thank....because I did this all on my own."🙅‍♀️

Great leaders are great because they ask for help. Great leaders know it really does take a village.🤴
