Listen To Bruce
Nov 06, 2023"I'm such an idiot"
"I'm not good at...."
"I'm so stupid..."
Ever said something like that to yourself? I know I have.
The next time you catch yourself doing that I gently invite you to go ahead and...
STOP DOING THAT! 🛑
Enter The Dragon 🐉
"Don't speak negatively about yourself, even as a joke. Your body doesn't know the difference. Words are energy and they cast spells, that's why it's called spelling. Change the way you speak about yourself, and you can change your life." - Bruce Lee
Whenever I hear someone (including myself) ding themselves - even if they're just kidding - it makes me think about Bruce's wise words. 🥋
Our minds constantly look for evidence of whatever we tell it. Tell yourself you're awesome and your mind will search for proof of that. Tell yourself you're stupid and your mind will search for proof of that. Like Bruce says, "your body doesn't know the difference."
Today's Program Is Sponsored By Your Reticular Activating System
The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a network of neurons located in the brain stem the project anteriorly to the hypothalamus to mediate behavior, as well as both posteriorly to the thalamus and directly to the cortex for the activation of awake, desynchronized cortical EEG patterns 🧠. In other words, the RAS is the system that lets us filter out unnecessary stimuli so we can focus on the stuff that matters.
Ever walk through an airport and easily ignore every announcement that comes over the loud speaker until they happen to say your name? Ever drive a new car off the lot certain that nobody else has it and then suddenly you start to see the same new make/model everywhere? That's your RAS at work. Our unconscious mind focuses on whatever we tell it is important.
When they drive 500 miles in a circle, race car drivers often carefully avoid looking at the outer track wall because they know if that becomes their focus, they will drive their car into that wall. 🏁
Remember: your RAS is ALWAYS listening!
Do Me a Favor
If you've read this far I'd like to ask you for a favor: next time you catch yourself saying horrible things about yourself, please stop doing that. Those that read my emails are important to me and I'd really appreciate if you'd stop giving them (aka YOU) such a hard time.
M'kay?
Be nice to yourself this week. I for one am on your side, Eric
