Managers control.
Leaders inspire.
We mix these words up all the time.
They’re not the same.
Before you accept a title or assign one, ask yourself:
Do you want to manage, or do you want to lead?
Managers give instructions.
Leaders tell stories.
Managers give answers.
Leaders ask questions.
Managers seek facts.
Leaders look for truth.
Managers focus on productivity.
Leaders focus on purpose.
Managers focus on developing process.
Leaders focus on developing people.
Managers focus on stability.
Leaders focus on innovation.
Managers focus on daily operations.
Leaders focus on long-term vision.
Managers want compliance.
Leaders shape culture.
Managers motivate through external rewards.
Leaders inspire through internal rewards.
Managers rely on the authority they’ve been given.
Leaders rely on the relationships they’ve built.
Managers focus on metrics.
Leaders focus on impact.
Managers give feedback.
Leaders offer advice.
Management is about making sure people do their job.
Leadership is about inspiring people to do their job.
So, which one do you want to be? 🚀
