SHOW OFF
May 28, 2024When you were a kid did you ever have show-and-tell days at school? Weren’t those days THE BEST?👌
SERIOUS BUSINESS
Show-and-tell was NOT to be taken lightly. The care and attention required to pick the very best toy or stuffed animal🧸 that would surely dazzle and amaze classmates was SERIOUS BUSINESS.🧐
Of course, the NIGHTMARE scenario was to FORGET that it was a show-and-tell day.😖
Sure, you could get up in front of class and describe the thing you WOULD have brought…and it was NEVER as good as having the real thing. As you regaled the class with your heartfelt description, kids started to squirm. Eyes drifted. Hearts were broken. Dreams dashed.
A THOUSAND WORDS
There’s a reason it’s not called “tell-and-tell,” and that’s because showing is always better than telling.
Which means the opportunity is to…
Demonstrate rather than describe.
Portray rather than pitch.
Give an experience rather than explain.
WALK THE WALK
Now don’t get me wrong – words matter. We learn through words all the time!
Which is actually part of the challenge: as we grow ever more comfortable in a world of increasing articles and posts and books and texts and emails and websites - truly transformational experiences are becoming ever rarer.
Virtual Reality is working on it – and there’s still a way to go there…maybe even a long way.
While everybody else offers explanations, pitch decks, and descriptions, the opportunity for us to offer a higher level of service through demonstrations, portrayals, and experiences.
Don’t just talk about it - SHOW them what’s possible, Eric
