This Isn't JOE
Feb 01, 2025
Recently I talked to Joe. π£οΈ
Well, Joe isnβt his real name β and for this story, Iβll call him Joe. π€
Joe had been working at his current company for over 27 years. π’π
Over that time, heβd been promoted to a senior position β however, not a super super senior position.
Not as senior as he thought he could be. ππ€
Lately, it really didnβt seem like he had a seat at the table. πͺβ
There had been layoffs, and even after 27+ years, Joe feels like he might be next. ππ
Increasingly, Joe feels a little panicked. π°
My heart goes to Joe. β€οΈ
Because I hear stories like this a lot. ππ¬
Usually, one of two things happen:
π The person initiates the change. They handle the situation actively. πͺβ‘
OR
π The person waits for the change to happen. They handle the situation passively. πβ³
The former always turns out better than the latter. β
What will happen for Joe? Weβll see. π
After 27+ years, making a change might feel risky. π’
Even though not making a change is probably riskier. β οΈπ―
