Tired of Getting Ghosted?
Feb 17, 2025
WARNING: Your follow up might suck.
That’s why it’s getting ignored.
You sent in a job application…
Now what?
You follow up. Smart move.
The problem: most follow-up sounds the same—and it’s all about the applicant.
β Don’t be that person. β
Here are 10 overused, boring phrases that make me want to eat a sad desk lunch:
π« I just wanted to check in…
π« I wanted to follow up on my application…
π« I’m passionate about [fill in the blank]…
π« I believe I’m the best candidate…
π« I know I’d be great for you…
π« I’m excited to hear back…
π« I’d love to know about next steps…
π« I’m reaching out to see if you have any feedback…
π« I’m very interested in this role…
π« I look forward to hearing from you…
Please. Stop. Saying. This.
Instead: make it about them. Make them feel seen, heard, and understood.
